2/4/2006 - The past couple of days seem to have blinked by...  I guess the easiest way to cover the days events would be in kind of a timeline of sorts -- by the way, this is long but has some wonderful news near the end so be sure to read it all :):):):):):):

bulletTuesday night, after Jessie became more stable and "normal" I tried going to bed, but she must have still been pretty shaken because every time I left the room she would whine (loudly) like she did when she was a puppy when she was left alone.  I think she finally quieted down around 2 in the morning.
bulletWednesday morning,
bullet5:00 am - after making sure Scott was up for work I guess I fell back to sleep because I woke up around 6:45 and started rushing around so I could make my 7:45 appointment at the hospital.
bullet7:15 am I called my vet's office only to find that the office doesn't open until 7:30 and that wouldn't leave enough time for me to get Jessie to the vet and be able to get back to the hospital for my own appointment in time ... so I decided to call the vet after my scan was over.
bullet7:40 am registered at hospital admissions
bullet8:00 am was escorted up to the Nuke Med waiting room and had no more than sat down when the nurse called my name.  I was glad that I had remembered to bring along the sleep mask that Mom gave me for Christmas because once I put the sleep mask and nasal strip on and got settled on the platform for the scan, well, if the technician had not told me she was going to start the scan I would have had no idea that I was in that box.  Honestly, it was amazing because I could feel that I was moving and I could hear things, but because I couldn't see how close the gamma detection unit was to my face I didn't freak out at all.  I just laid there thinking about Jessie and events of the night before.
bullet8:50(ish) am - the technician moved me from the gamma machine to another machine so they could take some pinpoint pictures of my neck and thyroid area.  This only takes about 10 minutes, but I decided to use the sleep mask again because it just kept me calmer to not see all the machinery so close to my body.
bullet9:05 am I was escorted back to the Nuke Med waiting area to wait for them to make copies of the scan pictures.
bullet9:15 am I was on my way back home!
bullet9:30 am I stopped at the gas station to fill up my truck and buy a bag of Cheetos!!!  YUMMY!
bulletAs a side note, I've eaten WAY to much salt now because my taste bugs are just raw and my tongue is sore, but things are getting better!!!
bullet10:00 am - back home I called the vet and explained what had happened and asked if I should bring Jessie in for testing or if we should just wait to see if she had another seizure?  The vet said that it was really up to me, but it would be in Jessie's best interest to rule out any toxin or physiological problem, like with her liver or kidneys -- and the soonest they could get her in was at 1 that afternoon.  I had to be at my endocrinologist's office at 1:45, so I was kind of hesitant, but since the next appointment for the vet would be at 3:45 it made more sense to take Jessie to the vet first and leave her there if it looked like I was going to be late for my own appointment and just pick her up on my way back home .....  So I took the 1:00 appointment
bulletWednesday afternoon,
bullet12:00 I woke up with a start!  Yeah, I had fallen asleep in my chair, so it was a good thing Sadie decided that she needed to go outside and had started up with her high pitched "let me out" whine.
bullet12:30 I loaded Jessie up in the truck and we were off (it was really strange to be taking just one dog, and I'm sure Sadie was wondering "what the .... HEY, you left me here!!"
bullet12:55 chatted with the vet's receptionist
bullet1:00 pm Jessie and I were escorted into one of the exam rooms (I love it that my vet doesn't double book ... we always get right in at the time that we're scheduled for).  The assistant asked a bunch of questions about Jessie's overall health and details about the night before.  Then I asked her if she could weigh Jessie since we were there.  I was happy to learn that Jessie had lost 6 pounds since our last visit back in May!
bulletNot sure what time it was, because there are no clocks in the exam room, but shortly after the assistant left Dr. Arehns came into the room.  Jessie had always seen Dr. Kaufman, but I learned that Dr. Kaufman had retired last summer and was relieved that Dr. Arehns (I'm not sure if I'm spelling her name correclty) is so nice.  Anyway, she asked more questions and explained what kind of tests would be done, that it would all be from blood samples and that it would take a couple days because it is cheaper for everyone involved if they outsource the lab work.  She led Jessie out to draw the necessary blood and commented about how smart Jessie is because Jessie led Dr. Arehns back to the room I was in :-)
bulletStill not positive what time it was, but I paid for the appointment ($119 ... YIKES!) and got Jessie and myself into the truck around 1:25 pm (or there 'bouts)
bullet1:45 pm I walked into Dr. Oppenheimer's office and let out a sigh of relief that I had made it on time!
bulletI talked to the nurses for a little while and then was escorted into one of the exam rooms.  My blood pressure was the lowest it has ever been ... 106 / 76 !!  I think I need to take Jessie along to all my doctor appointments from now on!
bulletDr. O came in a couple minutes later and checked my breathing and did the whole ankle squeezing thing before having me sit in the chair next to him.  He reviewed my last appointment out loud and then told me that the radiologist had called him with the results already, but wanted to look at the scan pictures I had brought with me before he told me what the radiologist had said.  As he was looking at the pictures he said "the radiologist can't be right, he said it was negative for spread, but what is this and this??" and with that he left he room to get the radiologist on the phone.  After learning that it would be a little while he sent me on my way, telling me to call in about an hour.  I felt pretty confident that the radiologist knew what he was talking about so I smiled and said "well, you two duke it out and let me know who wins ;-)" and left.
bulletBy the time I got home Karen, one of the nurses, had ready called me and left a message on the machine -- which I had to play back twice to make sure I heard her correctly -- and then I had to call the office to make sure I understood correctly.
bulletDr. O had talked to the radiologist twice via phone, once before I arrived at his office and then again after I left -- plus Dr. O had to go to the hospital for something unrelated and spoke with the radiologist in person again just to confirm their phone conversation...  so, it has been confirmed by him 3 times now ... the scan results were NEGATIVE which is very good news!!!

After that I finally realized that I was exhausted so I took a nap and shared everything with Scott when he got home ... and then called Mom ... and then called my sister (who wasn't home, so I sure hope my brother-in-law remembered to tell her I called and what I had told him)

Ok, that's enough typing for today I think :)

Love & hugs!

2/6/2006 - Well, it appears that Jessie's seizure on Tuesday night was not a "fluke" because I suspect she had another one last night.  I didn't hear her actually having a seizure, but shortly after midnight I woke up to very loud whining, so I took both dogs outside and on our way out the door Jessie brushed up against me and I noticed that the entire side of her neck was extremely wet.  As I got closer to the garage door I noticed a large pool of fluid on the floor.  As I cleaned the pool up I noted that it was clear and orderless and seemed to be the consistency of drool.  I'm not sure how long we were outside, but I know it was long enough for both of them to do their "business".  After coming back inside I decided I should use the facilities before returning to bed ... and as soon as I shut the door the whining started again.  This, of course, woke Scott up and had him convinced that Sadie had to go outside, and while I knew that it was Jessie whining, I took them outside again to be sure.  I tried sleeping in the living room, where Jessie can see me, but she still whined loudly, so I tried piling pillows on the kitchen table and sleeping there.  No, I can't sleep at the kitchen table,  but she did stop whining.  Finally, around 1:45 am I decided to let her whine herself to sleep, so I went into the other bedroom and laid down.  I felt horrible and hate that mattress, but she did quiet down around 2:00 ... and I fell asleep shortly after that ... I was back up at 5:00 to make sure Scott was up for work.  ... ... ... ... I'm thinking it is going to be a LONG day.

2/11/2006 - There really hasn't been much happening for me to ramble about lately.  This weekend I put together a cattle presentation for my co-workers to use when they train the office staff on the LGM (Livestock Gross Margin) - Cattle policy.  Last year many people asked questions about cattle and it became evident that most of our staff hasn't had much exposure to cattle, either beef or dairy, so that's what the presentation is for.  It was fun and educational at the same time!  I just hope that everyone else likes it.

Otherwise, every thing at home has been calm and "normal" ... and I couldn't be happier!!

Love & hugs
