July 4, 2006 - Happy Independence day to everyone!

Yep, I vanished for a while.  I didn't realize how much time had passed until my sister pointed it out a couple of weeks ago.

On April 18, 2006 I decided that I really needed to get my blood glucose under control because it was averaging over 130 every morning so I started following Weight Watchers again, not going to meetings but using the points system that I followed the last time I belonged to Weight Watchers.  I've lost 30 pounds so far and my morning blood sugar is almost always under 110, which is where it's supposed to be.  I'm very happy about that!

So, last update was pictures of my broken truck...  The lumps and bumps have long since heeled.  Ever since the accident I've spent much more time with Scott and my animals and much less time on the computer.  I guess you could say that my priorities changed and who can say how long it will be until they change once more?

The fine folks at Nordstrom's decided to park my truck in a lower area of their holding lot, an area prone to becoming extremely muddy during the spring thaw and guess what time of year my accident took place during???  BRILLIANT!!  Not only was it during the spring thaw, but it rained for several days, on and off, but no one bothered to cover the broken windows on my truck, so not only was there exterior damage, but additional water damage to the interior.  I had been without a vehicle for over 2 weeks before I became irked enough to contact my insurance agent about the lack of communication and service from the adjuster ... after that it took about 2 days to get an answer.  Because of the additional water damage, the adjuster determined that it would be easier to total out my truck.  SO, on April 8 Scott and I toured the Ford lot again - looking for a vehicle that 1) was easy on gas and 2) could easily hold both my large dogs, suitcases and boxes of Christmas presents for my trips to Wisconsin.  I am now the proud owner of a 2006 Ford Focus wagon.  I don't have any pictures, but have made a trip to Wisconsin and only had to fill up twice.  I love my new car!!!

Mom & Dad celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary on June 20, so my sister put together a quiet family party.  We all met up at Turner Hall in Monroe, WI and enjoyed a wonderful meal and overall had a really good time.  I think both Mom & Dad enjoyed the experience.  As we were getting ready to leave, my sister turned to me and said something to the effect of "You are not getting out of planning their 50th" and I can't blame her for feeling that way at all.  It takes time, sweat and tears to get things organized and she did a wonderful job with this one, but I'm really sorry that I didn't help her more.  I'll happily help plan the next one.

I was in Wisconsin from June 20th until the 25th and took both dogs with me so Jessie would get her medication (we finally had to put her on Phenobarbital to help control her seizures, which had become rather frequent and increasingly severe in April) on time since Scott had to work overtime all week and wouldn't be able to keep the same medication schedule.  It's been an emotional year for us, first with Jessie's seizures and then one of the cats, TC, passed away while I was in Wisconsin.  TC had really bonded with Scott, so I'm sure it was hard on him to come home and find that she had died.  Scott called me to ask where I wanted her buried - when I couldn't think of anywhere he said that he would find a suitable place for her.  When I got home on Sunday I noticed the "Beware of Attack Cat" plaque that we had bought for TC out in a corner of the sand box I'm converting into a flower bed...

Last week I was in Anoka, MN for work.  It was great to see people I haven't seen in years and to meet the newer people ... but I'm really happy to be back home.  It's hard for me to sleep when I'm away from home, so by the end of last week I was just exhausted.  I got nothing done on Friday because I was trying to get all my paperwork organized and get caught up on all the office happenings.  Hopefully, after today, things at work will be more normal.

Hmmm, I'm sure there is probably more to babble about, but that's all I can think of right now...

Love & hugs y'all,

July 8, 2006 - I picked up my new glasses this past Wednesday.  Normally it would be a very routine thing, just swap the old with the new, right?  Yeah, sure.  You should know better where I'm concerned.  I was instructed to not wear my new glasses until the next morning.  The theory was that my eyes would adjust to my new BIFOCALS (yes, I've now joined the ranks of bifocal wearers) more quickly if they were rested.  Umm, ok, nice theory.  I actually did ok with them right away, even ran down and back up my basement stairs to grab something I needed to take to work.  I didn't have any trouble with the stairs, maybe because I tend to not look down at the stairs, but out ahead more?  Anyway, when I took the dogs outside I decided to sweep the dried grass cuttings off the patio.  This is when the nausea set in.  BLEH!  That lasted for much of the remainder of the day.  If I had not given my word that I would give the new lenses a fair trial for one month I would have made a special trip to return them that day!!  I'm not even really sure why the eye doctor wrote the prescription for bifocals since I didn't have any trouble seeing or reading on the close up tests...  Oh well, today is day 3 of wearing the new glasses and I guess my eyes are becoming more accustom to the progressive lens.

Not much else going on right now...

Love & hugs,

July 16, 2006 - October sounds like it is still a long time from now, but not when I start breaking it down into the "what I need to do before the wedding" list.   There are the "Save the Date" letters, which should have been sent out the last week of June, at the latest ... and I'm still working on writing it!  A friend of mine is working on her photography portfolio, so I asked her if she would take our engagement pictures.  She was excited to do it, wish I could say the same for Scott...  The photo shoot was this past Friday and Scott found it to be not as bad as he expected.  We should get the pictures some time this week & I'm going to "try" to incorporate them into the "save the date" letter, but have promised myself that I will have them written and sent by the end of this coming week, regardless.

I've also decided to make my own necklace for the wedding.  I found a picture that I just fell in love with, but when I measured my own neck before ordering I found that the one I found wasn't nearly big enough.  I got started with that this weekend also.  I know better than to try to work on more than one project at a time, but at least this time I'm setting deadlines for myself.

Love & hugs,

July 22, 2006 - Finally got my "Save the Date" letters sent out today and I finished the base for my necklace last night (just have to tie off the ends so the beadwork doesn't unravel.  I wanted to pick up a tool box that would hold my bead containers and loom so I can move my project to any location without dropping anything.  I had found one a fishing tackle box that looked like it would work, but decided to hold off on buying it until I had shopped around a bit more, then I found the exact same thing in the Fire Mountain Gems catalogue for more than twice the price (plus shipping) -- YIKES!  Before heading back to Wal-Mart I decided to check out the toolboxes at Home Depot and I'm glad I did.  Scott pointed out a "Mobile Work Center" by Stanley.  It had a detachable bottom section that turns out to be deep enough to hold my larger scrapbooking materials.  The top has enough room for my bead containers, loom and extra junk I carry around!  Bonus for me is that it is a wheeled toolbox!!!  It was only $33.00 and I had a gift card to use, so up to the counter it came with us.  Quite a line formed behind us as the sales clerk searched for the UPC label - poor girl even tried calling that department 4 or 5 times.  She finally decided to go with the only SKU she found on the entire thing - even though we had both told her that it was $32.99 - she plugged in the SKU and I got my $33.00 toolbox for less than $20.00!!!

Love & hugs y'all,

July 30, 2006 - It was an uneventful week ... I didn't get the job I interviewed for, and while it would have been an interesting challenge it would not have been a "step up" for me - rather more of a lateral slide.  I was a little disappointed, but I love what I'm doing and know that I'm of a bit more value to the company in my current position than I would be in the other position.  For several years, my goal was to make it to the 20 year mark with RCIS.  I've recently revised that goal to stay with the company until at least age 51 - I doubt that our finances will allow me to retire, but when I turn 51 my age plus years of employment will equal 80, so I'll be eligible for retirement!  Worth while goal I think, I mean, I've made it this far and am almost to my 18th anniversary, so another 12 years doesn't seem unrealistic or out of reach :-)

It has been hot and hot here.  Our area is no where near as dry as west river is, but it is still dry and HOT!  I don't think anyone is really watering their lawns in our neighbor hood, so everything is a dull brown color right now.  I don't think anyone has had to mow in over 2 weeks, which is quite a change from this spring when we were mowing at least twice a week.  I just can't get over how hot and dry it is.  My feet and elbows feel like alligator skin, getting me ready for what things will be like this winter I suppose!

I mentioned, back on the 16th, that I was going to make my own necklace for the wedding... and I thank my sister for steering me in that direction!  I only have 12 strands left to make and I ran out of the teardrop beads.  I went to order more and found that the only place that carries that particular bead is out of stock and on backorder.  It could be 8 weeks before I receive the beads and be able to finish my necklace.  I could just cry!  I was SO close to having one project done.

I suppose it's too late at night to call anyone now.  I've been thinking about my sister all day, but was nowhere near a phone - now that I'm near a phone it's too late to call.  Hey Sis, if you read this ... I love you and would love to talk!  How late it to late anyway?  I remember that when I was growing up, phone calls that came in after 10pm were frowned on, to say the least.  Ever since the events of last summer, I've been going to bed anywhere between 9:30 and 10pm, so to me 9pm is pretty much to late for me to call anyone ... It's past bedtime for me so,

Love & hugs y'all
