August 2, 2006 - Yep, August already.  Work is keeping me really busy, which is good :-)  Not related, but I haven't been able to sleep the past couple nights, which makes it tough for me to not feel overwhelmed during the day :-(  Boy, slow news day...  no rants, no babbling, no rambling ... suppose I could express my frustration with the beads I need to finish my necklace being on backorder and having no clue if they will be in next week or in 8 weeks from now (which would be cutting it extremely close), but I'm too tired to rant.

Instead, I think I'll share the joy I felt when I was out shopping for velvet so I could get started on my Kinsale Cloak (aka Full Length Cape).  One of my co-workers told me about a shop called "Mill End Textiles" having such a great selection and prices, so Scott and I went fabric shopping on Monday night.  When the sales clerk was directing us to the velvet (perfect color by the way) I showed her a picture of the cloak.  I got a little nervous when she asked me how soon I needed it, thinking that they didn't have enough in stock and it was on backorder as well ... when I told her I needed it completed by late October she smiled and said "well, we're having a sale next week.  Stop by the register and pick up a couple coupons for 60% off a fabric purchase because the velvet is normally $8.99 per yard and you'll need about 8 yards to make that cloak."  HMMM, let me think ... DEAL!  Guess where I'll be on Sunday :-)

Love & hugs y'all,

August 25, 2006 - It feels like I've been really busy, but I don't have anything tangible to show for it ... time is like money, I waste more than I have!!  I have all the material bought for my cloak, the beads I was waiting for finally arrived and I have not worked on either project.  Like I said, busy with nothing to show for it.  One project I did finally finish was creating the invitations for our wedding :-)  I'm really happy with how they turned out ... now I just have to find time to hand address the envelopes.  Doesn't sound like a very big deal, but if I don't set aside a block of time for something like that my hand writing is HORRID!  I'd like for people to be able to easily tell that the invitation is addressed to them and not wonder what the long squiggle word is...  I hope to have the invitations set out next Saturday.  That should give everyone about a month to lose the RSVP post cards.

I'm not sure what it is about this time of year, but money issues seem to arise more during the late summer/early fall than they do any other time of the year.  I'm trying to stay positive about it all.  I know that my car loan and both of my 401(k) loans will be paid off by the end of 2010.  To see that number in writing, it seems like such a long time from now.  In reality the end of 2010 is in just 4 years and a couple months.  With as quickly as time speeds by it is going to be Christmas 2010 in a blink!!  Scott and I have already been together for 4 years now.  Honestly, it doesn't seem like that long but it has been.  It's all doable, and it will be done.  I think the hardest thing for me to do is to account for how I spend the money that Scott contributes to the "fund".  I know I spend money I shouldn't on things like soda and fast food or convenience store "food" for breakfast before work.  I could just as easily spend about the cost of one of those "meals" on a loaf of bread, pack of soft tortillas and a big thing of eggs and eat for the week - but NO, not me ... I'd rather give that hard earned money to Holiday and McDonalds.  Sad but true.  Unfortunately, I don't think cutting out my morning stops at the Holiday station is going to generate enough savings to pay off any one of my credit cards, but it sure wouldn't hurt to put the extra into at least lowering the balance so the interest doesn't eat me alive any more.  Oh well, I'm sure if I did a quick search of my past rambles and rants I would find more than a couple writings about the fiasco that my financial life is from time to time (and some times spanning a couple years!)

Life, over all is pretty good, but it's this little pot holes that seem to flatten my tires for a while every year.

Love & hugs y'all,

September 17, 2006 - It's colder today, but it feels good.  I love the fall.  My smoke tree finally produced smoke.  My aunt had actually given me two trees.  The one that was doing the best died over the winter so I cut it down and the other one just took off!  With July and August being so dry, I'm not sure that we're going to see very much in the way of bright colors on the trees, but some of the leaves on my trees have started to turn yellow ... so I'm hoping that it will be a brilliant fall.

I probably should have written up a wedding check list when we first started planning, but I think things are falling into place fairly well.  I finished my cloak yesterday.  Scott bought my wedding band and I ordered his.  My dress should arrive any day now.  Our chapel,  flight and hotel reservations have been made.  Invitations went out and the engagement announcement was in last weeks paper.  Still need to find a good kennel to board the dogs and I have about 4 strands left to put together for my necklace.  Hopefully everyone we sent invitations to will send back the reply cards whether they plan to come or not because I'm not in the mood to guess.  Should we all go out for dinner after the wedding and then head to Freed's Bakery for a slice of cake (each person would get to pick their own flavor) OR should I order a cake and have it delivered to the hotel and have everyone come back to the hotel for cake ... OR ... OR ... OR ... I hate making these types of decisions.  About the time I think I have a good bead on it everything changes.

September 23, 2006 - I've been reviewing my finances and was surprised to see that I've spent more on my pets vet visits, special foods and medication than I have on my own doctoring this year!!!  No complaints because my pets are worth every penny spent, just surprised at how much everything costs.  I switched both of them to Purina One Large Breed Senior dog food and to help them take to the new food, I mixed 1/2 a can of Alpo Prime Cuts into each bowl... now they won't eat their dog food until I mix a little canned food in with it.  I'm ok with that because I know they are both getting more nutrition out of their food.  They are shedding a bit less and their coats look healthier (plus there is less stool and that is always a welcome benefit)!

38 days left until the wedding and I still don't have my dress.  She assured me that it has been shipped and should be delivered no later than Wednesday ... I just hope it doesn't need to be altered at all.  I took my cloak to work yesterday and heard many positive comments about the colors I had selected.  I'm excited to put the outfit all together now.  Maybe I'll have some extra money to have a couple bridal pictures taken during the coming weeks, that is a fairly common thing, isn't it?  Some of my friends at work are hosting a bridal shower for me.  I hadn't expected anything because this is my 2nd marriage, so it was a wonderful surprise to find out what they were planning.

Love & hugs y'all,
