Scars ... almost every person I know has a scar of some type, be it physical or emotional ... I am no different, as I have both.  Emotionally, I have experienced many incidents which left me scarred in some way, relationships gone bad, deaths of friend and family, betrayal, divorce (the list could go on and on).  Physically, until June of 2005, I only had small scars on my knees from various childhood bicycle accidents, a small scar on my right thigh to serve as a reminder to NOT try to stop a glass from falling from an overhead shelf with my leg ever again and three tiny scars from when I had my gall bladder removed.  All of the previously mentioned scars can be easily hidden from view, but now I am sporting a flashy new scar which is not as easy to hide away and forget.  I notice people looking at it in the store and all I can think to do is to stand up even taller and beam a smile at them to reassure them that I'm ok with how I look.  My scar adds a new dimension to my character.  For all I know it may never change from the way it looks today, which is a far cry better than it looked a month ago (scroll down to see the progression and improvements)!  Who can say with any degree of certainty?

The first set of pictures, taken 4 days after surgery, before the staples were removed.  I both looked and felt like I had been hit by a truck, or Frankenstein's monster - take your pick!

The second set of pictures, taken the day the staples were removed, my hair had not been washed in 7 days.  I was grumpy, but happy that the staples were gone and that I didn't feel so much like I had almost the entire week prior!  The swelling and bruising had decreased considerably.

The third set of pictures, taken one month after surgery, clean hair and happy to be feeling tremendously better.  My range of motion has greatly improved as well because when the first two sets of pictures were taken there was no way I could have tilted my head that far to the side
